This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit this site or contact us, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to this website only.

Who is responsible

The operator of this website is the data controller for the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, and the business for the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act.

What we collect

Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in the message. We use it to reply and to keep a record of the correspondence.

Technical information collected automatically. Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard server log data when a page is served: the requested address, the time of the request, the referring page if one was supplied, a truncated or hashed form of the IP address, and the browser’s user-agent string. This is used to keep the site online, diagnose faults and detect abuse.

Cookies. This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and does not run third-party analytics or profiling scripts. If that changes, this policy and the notice on the page will be updated first, and any non-essential cookie will be gated behind consent.

Why we are allowed to hold it

We rely on the following legal bases:

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share it only with:

How long we keep it

Server logs are retained for a short operational period and then deleted or aggregated. Editorial correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to keep a reasonable record of corrections, after which it is deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where consent is the basis. California residents may also request disclosure of the categories of information collected and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these, email us at the address above. We will respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law — normally one month under GDPR, or 45 days under CCPA. We may need to verify your identity first.

You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU it is the supervisory authority in your country of residence.

Children

This site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Where a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will make that clear on the site rather than relying on you to notice.
